GDC Sogam organises Seminar to celebrate Human Rights Day

Srinagar: A One-Day Students’ Seminar in commemoration of the international ‘Human Rights Day’ was organised by the Govt. Degree College Sogam (Kupwara) on 10th December 2022.
The event was jointly organized by the departments of Political Science, Islamic Studies, English and Urdu in collaboration with the Debates & Seminar Committee (D&SC), NSS Unit, Red Ribbon Club & IQAC of the college and District Hub for Empowering Women (DHEW), Kupwara. The themes of the seminar were “Dignity, Freedom and Justice for all” and “Rights of Women as Enshrined in the Indian Constitution”.
The patron of the seminar was Dr. Shamim Ahmad Dar (Principal of the college) while Prof. Sajad Ahmad (AP, English; Co-Convener, D&SC) moderated the event and Dr Tauseef Ahmad (AP, Islamic Studies; Convener, Media Cell) acted as the Rapporteur.
The event started with the recitation of Quran by Mohd. Iqbal followed by Naat by Ms Nargis Rashid (both 1st Sem students). This was followed by “Introductory Remarks-cum-Welcome Address” by Prof. Mehbooba Bano (Asso. Prof./ HOD, Political Science; Vice-Principal) in which she highlighted the importance of 10th December which is celebrated as Human Rights Day globally as well as contextualized the importance of the themes of the seminar.
In this seminar, eleven (11) students, 7 male and 4 female, gave presentations on the given themes. Peer Jafar, Irfan Bashir Bhat, Mudasir Naik, Syed Sahziya (all from 6th sem), Tahir Reyaz Khan and Danish Fayaz Tantry (both from 5th sem) spoke on theme-1.
Fayaz Ahmad (Faiz), Iffat Nazir, Rehana Imtiyaz and Kulsooma Bano (all from 6th sem) and Saqib Sarwar (4th sem) spoke on theme-2 of the seminar.
This was followed by “Slogan-Writing and Poster-Making Competition”on “Women Empowerment”.
The program ended with the distribution of certificates among the student speakers. The event was attended by a good number of students of 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th semesters and many faculty members.
