Day Celebrated at GDC Pampore

PAMPORE: Government Degree College Pampore on Thursday organized an AIDS Awareness Programme under the Red Ribbon Club of the college on World Aids Day, where a number of students participated in the programme.
The programme was aimed to spread awareness about AIDS among the students of the college.
The event was presided over by chief guest Principal GDC Pampore, Dr. Huda Galzai.
The programme was attended by Dr Murtaza Salim, Dr Syed Tehmid , faculty members of GDC Pampore Prof Shah Lateef, Dr Mohammad Iqbal, Prof Alam Ara Shah, Dr. Shabir Hussain Lone and Prof. Ashaq Rashid and others.
The programme was organized by the college Red Ribbon Club in which a series of activities were conducted, officials told Kashmir Reader.
The programme commenced with a Reel making competition which was followed by an extempore speech competition.
These activities were followed by an Awareness lecture on the theme “Equalize Achieving equality to end HIV/AIDS”.
The guest speakers on the occasion were Dr. Syed Tehmid and Dr. Murtaza Salim.
Later, an awareness rally was taken out from the college campus to the locality of Tulbagh. Principal faculty members of the college and number of students participated in the rally, he said.
“1 December is observed as world AIDS day. In this connection a programme was organised in GDC Pampore,” Principal GDC Pampore, Dr Huda Gazia told Kashmir Reader, adding that they invited two doctors on the theme of equality which was chosen for this year.
She said that the doctors provided awareness to students and staff on causes and consequences of the disease and how it affects quality of life for the infected person.
“Blood transfusion and sharing of needles by drug addicts are two main reasons for it’s spread,” she said, adding that a person remains unaware how it spreads from one person to another through drug addiction.
She told Kashmir Reader that for prevent the spread of AIDS drug addiction is to be checked.
A rally was carried out by the students and the staff to send a message to society how dangerous and deadly this disease is and how it affects quality of life.
