GDC Sumbal Celebrates Constitution Day 

Sumbal: On the eve of National Constitution Day celebrations, “73rd anniversary of adaptation of Constitution of India” was celebrated today on 26th November 2022 at GDC Sumbal. The program was formally started by the reading of the preamble of the Constitution by Ubaid Ayoub, a student of UG 1st semester of the college.
It was followed by the welcome address by Prof. Bashir Ahmad Khan, HOD commerce. Prof.( Dr). Shabeena Iqbal Shawl, the worthy principal of the college, was chief guest on this Auspicious Occasion.
While delivering opening remarks, Prof.(Dr.) Shabeena Iqbal underscored the importance of celebration of National Constitution Day.” She highlighted how the Martyrs of India sacrificed their precious lives for attaining independence from the Britishers.
It was on 26th Nov, 1949, that the Indian constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly and on 26th January 1950 it came into force. Constitutionally, India is a Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic and Republican country, which makes it a welfare state as well one of the best democracies of the world, she said.
She reiterated how India became a strong democracy in the world and why it is called as the mother of democracy in the contemporary times.while deliberating upon the beauties of Indian Constitution she added, that, it teaches us a special lesson of patience and unanimity.
Dr. Mehraj Hajini, staff secretary and HOD Political Science, delivered a lecture on the theme India: The Mother of Democracy. The learned speaker talked in length about democracy, constitution, fundamental rights envisaged for the citizens of India in our constitution. Dr. Hajini said, Indian Constitution is the lengthiest Constitution of the world and it took 2 years, 11 months and 8 days to its forefathers to complete the same. India is a diverse country and the Constitution of India accommodates every section of the society and provides equal opportunity to its citizens without any sort of discrimination which makes Indian democracy the best in the world.
The program was attended by the faculty and large number of students of the college. Prof. Reyaz Ahmad Kuchay, HOD Economics carried out the proceedings, Dr.Aadil Mohi UD Din Sheikh acted as reporter of the event while, Prof. Mohammad Iqbal Rather, HOD Urdu presented vote of thanks on the occasion.
