‘Saffron Day’ celebrated at ARSSSS, SKUAST-Kashmir, Dussu Pampore

Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir visits Pampore

SRINAGAR: Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, visited the research station along with Registrar, Directors, Deans, OSD and Associate Dean of SKUAST- Kashmir. The event was also attended by the farmers field functionaries and officers of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare. At the outset Dr. B.A. Alie, Head of the Station briefed about the research initiatives being carried out at the station. During the proceedings of the event the Vice-Chancellor took a thorough review of the steps taken to improve the Saffron crop production and management in Kashmir.
He explained and stressed upon the farmers to adopt the recommended practices and technologies which were on live display at the research station. Later during the interaction with the farmers, it was opined and directed to create template model farms on a similar pattern as developed at ARSSSS SKUAST-Kashmir, Dussu Pampore with an initial number of 100 farms to showcase and popularize the impact of technologies developed by SKUAST-Kashmir. This will also promote the Eco-Tourism and footfall of the tourists to the saffron growing areas. Prof. Ganai congratulated the scientists of the research station for their promising work especially the Indoor Saffron Technology, which will go a long way in the vertical farming of saffron under scarce land resource conditions in times to come. Scientists were also asked to fast-track the work on tagging potential farmers for devising and restructuring core research framework for identification of robust variables which is affecting saffron production in the Kashmir region.
