GDC Sogam Kupwara celebrates Annual Day-2022

Srinagar: Govt. Degree College (GDC) Sogam (Lolab), Kupwara celebrated its Annual Day-2022 on Saturday with great zeal and enthusiasm. The patron of the event was the worthy Principal, Dr Shamim Ahmad Dar. A student-centric and much-awaited event in an educational institution’s calendar, a large gathering of students (both male and female), guests (including Principals and professors of north Kashmir colleges, dignitaries of University of Kashmir, officers/ officials from the sub-district administration Sogam, civil society members, etc.) and staff members were present on this occasion.
The event was collectively moderated by Syed Shaziya (BA 6th Sem), Mr Danish Bashir (BSc 6th Sem) and Prof. Sajad Ahmad (AP/ HoD, English). The program started with the recitation of the Qur’anic verses followed by Naat by Mohd. Arshid Khan (6th Sem) and Davood Ahmad Mir (6th Sem), respectively. This was followed by the College Tarana (sung by a large group of both male and female students of the college).
The Welcome Address cum Introductory Speech was presented by the worthy Principal, who welcomed all the guests, students and staff; highlighted the importance of the annual day function in an educational institution; presented a brief profile of the college; and highlighted some major glimpses of the achievements of the students in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities during 2022. “Annual day is a special day in the college meant for the students”, providing them an opportunity to express/ display their talent and to get acknowledged and awarded for their feats and accomplishments in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the year, he said.
The event was marked by a number of cultural and entertaining programs (like Kashmiri traditional rouff, Kashmiri and Urdu songs—both solo and group—skits, Ladi-Shah, etc.) and few speeches from the students to share their experiences in the College.
Besides these cultural performances of the students, the audience was enthralled by the fascinating singing performances of Shafi Sopori (of Jankaar group) and Aijaz Ahmad (aka Sam Aijaz) of Kupwara.
On this occasion, the best-performing students during the current year were given certificates of appreciation, medals, mementos and trophies for their outstanding performance in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities like Toppers of Batch-2018, Best NSS Volunteers, Best Orators and Writers, Best Library User, Best Cultural Performers, Best Sportspersons, and last but not the least, Student of the Year, etc.
The event ended with ‘Vote of Thanks’ proposed by Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah (Sr. Assistant Professor, Education; IQAC, Coordinator. The event was attended by over 400 students, including NSS volunteers, 100s of guests, civil society members, media persons and staff members of the college.
