SLCA holds workshop on Drug Abuse Prevention

Srinagar: State Level Coordinating Agency J&K today organized a one-day workshop for college students ofGovt. Degree College, Sambaon “Drug AbusePrevention ‘’ in collaboration with theNational Institute of Social Defence,Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment,Govt. of India.Workshop was organized to educate students about drugs, peer pressure and drug addiction. Dr. Ravinder Tikoo, Principal, GDC Samba accompanied byDr. Geeta Lakotra NSS, Program Officergraced the occasion.Resource persons were from JKSPYM organization.Around 80 students including teachers of college took part in the workshop.
Program initiated with the inauguration ceremony by lighting the lamps. Dr. Geeta Lakotra, NSS Program Officer presented the welcome speech. In her speech, she welcomed the JKSPYM SLCA team and appreciated the efforts of team for conducting the program. She highlighted that J&K state is becoming the hub of drug abuse and it is the need of an hour to generate awareness to eradicate the menace of drug addiction from the society. Program started with the quiz competition to analyze the previous knowledge of students about drugs and drug abuse.Session started with the introduction of State Level Coordinating Agency and JKSPYMorganization followed by interaction session with students. Workshop Started with an activity of peer pressure in which students participated enthusiastically. Then, the resource person started the session on “Introduction of drugs” with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. She briefly described the drugs and drug addiction.
Then, second resource person discussed the different types of drugs, preventive measures and the treatment process. She educated the participants about the long- and short-term effects of different types of drugs on body, mind, career and family. She further added that drug addiction is not only confined to body, mind and career but it is also illegal to consume it.
At the end of the program, Principal Dr. Ravinder Tikoo in his speech appreciated the efforts of SLCA J&K Team for visiting GDC Samba and conducting the workshop and for awaring the students and teachers of the college. Program concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms. Kimi Padhiar, SLCA official and SLCA team included Deepak Bhati and Mr. Ankush Gupta.After the program, refreshment and pamphlets were distributed among all the participants present on the occasion.
