Students imparted awareness on raising of Conifer plants, identification of trees & medicinal plants at Chitternar, Bandipora

BANDIPORA: As part of ‘Wildlife Week Celebrations’, Forest Division Bandipora along with Wular Conservation and Management Authority today organised an awareness cum plantation programme at Chitarnar.
As many as 40 students from Baby Land School Sumbal participated in the multi-oriented programmes at Chitternar and Wular Lake.
The students were given hands-on raising of conifer plants in forest nurseries coupled with identification of different trees and medicinal plants.
A detailed discussion was held with the students by the field experts regarding the flora and fauna heritage of the district. The economic potential and ecosystem services generated by the wild life and marine bio reserves were discussed with the students to attract their will and considerations for such studies.
After their visit to the nursery, students were taken to the Forest Museum to learn about the existing and critically endangered species and to discuss the measures for the conservation of the same.
Students visited the forest Martyrs memorial to remember the souls who laid their lives for the environmental security of the nation.
After the visit plantation drive was carried out in which students were explained the field technique of carrying plantations.
The students later visited Wular Lake and had a walk to connect with nature.
The student outreach programme was organized by Divisional Forest Officer & Coordinator WUCMA, Mudasir Mehmood along with the field functionaries of the department.
While interacting with the students he said that on field experience helps students to connect to nature and also gain practical knowledge.
He said more such events will be organised in which emphasis will be given to provide students a wholesome experience rather than only carrying plantations so as to benefit them academically as well nurture them as future conservationists.
