DC Shopian chairs DMC meeting on formation of FPOs

SHOPIAN: The District Level Monitoring Committee meeting was today held at Mini Secretariat, Shopian for allotment of Blocks and Commodity to CBBOs, engaged for formation of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in the district under Central Sector Scheme of 10000 FPOs.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya who is also Chairman District Level Monitoring Committee chaired the meeting with heads of departments and representatives of implementing agencies.
He called for coordination among concerned for effective results on ground level in the district.
The DC said that formation and promotion of FPOs is the first step for enhancing cost effective production and productivity and higher net incomes to the members of the FPOs besides improving rural economy and creating job opportunities for rural youth in villages itself.
This, he said, is the major step towards improving farmers’ income sustainability. He emphasised on the team approach to help the farmers to transform themselves into agro- entrepreneurs.
The meeting was informed that NABARD has got approval for formation of 02 FPOs in the district and BIO Cert International has been engaged as CBBO to form these FPOs at ground level whereas NAFED has got approval for 01 FPO to be formed by IASL.
It was further informed that NCDC has engaged SKUAST as CBBO and got approval for 01 FPO.
The committee on the occasion allotted commodities among Blocks of the district in Potato, vegetable, apiculture, Apples and Mushroom categories in favour of three engaged CBBOs namely Bio Cert, IASL and SKUAST.
Among others, DDM, NABARD, CAO, CHO, CAHO and representatives of Bio Cert, IASL and SKUAST were present in the meeting.
