Swach Bharat Diwas celebrated at MC Bijbehara

ANANTNAG: On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, Swach Bharat Diwas under the aegis of Swach Amrit Mahotsav was held at Municipal Committee Bijbehara.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom was the chief guest on the occasion. Director, Urban Local Bodies Kashmir Mathora Masoom and President Municipal Committee Dooru Verinag Mohd Iqbal were also present on the occassion.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that Swachta Diwas was celebrated with much fervour throughout Anantnag. He said this is just the beginning and he is hopeful that the people of Anantnag will play their role in ensuring a Swach Anantnag.
He said institutional support in terms of facilities, infrastructure development and dissemination of knowledge as well as capacity building programmes are all important verticals for achieving the goal of Swach Anantnag but the most critical input is of public sensitization and participation. He said that the administration is fully committed in ensuring that all necessary measures are in place for a Swach Anantnag, Green Anantnag.
Director ULB Mathora Masoom said that the municipalities in Anantnag have performed brilliantly in the recently held Indian Swachta league. She said that team work is essential for success of any program. She said through concerted efforts, door to door collection of waste and segregation at source, will be instrumental in ensuring scientific disposal of wastes.
Several Safai Karamcharis were felicitated on the occasion for their ever so important role in making Anantnag swach. Cultural programmes were held with a skit on source segregation, poetic message on segregation and a message on the teachings of Gandhiji.
The function was attended by SDM Bijbehara, Tehsildar Bijbehara, EO MC Bijbehara among others.
Later, Director ULB visited several homes covered under door to door collection program and felicitated home owners who have played their part in source segregation of waste and kept their homes clean.
