Three arrested in blackmail case: Police

Srinagar: Police here said on Wednesday that it has arrested three persons accused of involvement in a case of blackmail.
In a statement, police said that on September 27, a person named Nazir Ahmad Rather, resident of Dalwan Chaar-e-Shareef Budgam, lodged a written complaint at Police Station Shergarhi to the effect that some days back he received a call from a woman who identified herself as Saba, and insisted that he meet her for some work.
The complainant said that he met the woman near Bakshi Stadium Srinagar. The said woman took him to her room at Reck Chowk Batamaloo where she started levelling false allegations against him. In the meantime, three other men (her associates) forcibly entered the room and started making a video.
The complainant said that the woman along with her accomplices started blackmailing him and he fell prey to their “conspiracy”.
Police said that in this regard a case FIR No. 76/2022 U/S 34, 384, 120-B, 506 IPC was registered in Police Station Shergarhi and investigation started. Three accused, namely, Shaista Bashir @ Saba, R/O Budgam, Jahangir Ahmad Dar, R/O Handwara, and Aijaz Ahmad Ganaie, R/O Budgam, have been arrested in the instant case.
“There are some other victims of this gang and more arrests are also expected in the instant case and investigation is going on,” said the police statement.
