Training programme on ‘Scientific Management of Sheep and Goat begins

SRINAGAR: A 10 days training programme on ‘Scientific Management of Sheep and Goats in Mountains’ Directorate of Extension SKUAST-K Shalimar under the project entitled “Production Improvement, Sustainable development and Livelihood improvement of Threatened Tribal Nomads of Ladakh through Scientific Sheep and Pashmina Goat Rearing” funded by DST-STI Hub Govt of India was inaugurated by Prof. NazirA.Ganai, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-K accompanied by Professor Dil Mohammed Makhdoomi, Director Extension.
The programme was also attended by Prof Hilal M Khan, Prof Khursheed Ahmed Dar and Dr Henna Hamdani (Co PIs of the project). Dr Feroz Din Sheikh, Head KVK Leh/Principal Investigator of the DST Project, welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries and give a brief about the training programme and its importance.
The participants whichinclude Programme Assistants, SRF and field workers of various on-going research projects of KVK-Leh hailing from different areas of Ladakh will be given hands on training on Scientific management of Sheep and Goat particularly applied to cold arid condition of Ladakh Region.Prof. DilMohdMakhdoomi in his speech appreciated the staff of KVK-Leh for its performance and dedication which was visible by its outreach programmes, Success Stories and ongoing various externally funded research projects.Professor NazirA.Ganai, Vice Chancellor, highly appraised the work of KVK-Leh particularly in protected cultivation, livestock production and management and Integrated Farming Model for upliftment of Tribal farmers of Ladakh under various research projects and Schemes. Later Vice Chancellor released the Improvised Pashmina Comb developed by Dr FD Sheikh Principal Investigator under the DST-STI Hub Project. The improvised comb is the long-standing demand of the Pashmina Goat Herders of Ladakh and will be a boon to them.The Programme ended with vote of Thanks by Professor Khurshid Ahmed Dar Co PI of the project.
