Awantipor: A two-day International Conference on ‘Society, Culture, and Social Change: Kashmir and Beyond’ is being organized by Islamic University of Science and Technology in collaboration with Indian Sociological Society (ISS) on September 6 & 7, 2022. Lieutenant Governor, UT of J&Kand Chancellor of the University, Manoj Sinha shall preside over the Inaugural function of the event on Tuesday.
Concurrently, the IUST Synthetic Athletic Track, the only international standard athletic track in Jammu and Kashmir will also be inaugurated by the LG on September 6. The 400 m long athletic track built at an altitude of 1657 m above sea level has been developed under Khelo India Scheme with a project outlay of 6.09 cr from the Government of India. The 1st J&K Chancellor’s Athletic Meet: Men & Women 2022 will be inaugurated by the Chancellor where athletes representing all universities of J&K will be participating.
The keynote speaker of the two-day conference is Prof. Sari Hanafi, Professor of Sociology, Chair, Islamic Studies Program and President of International Sociological Association at American University of Beirut. Prof. Abha Chauhan, President, Indian Sociological Society is the convenor of the conference. Prof Pirzada M Amin, Controller Examinations, IUST is the Organizing Secretary of the conference.
Indian Sociological Society is a professional body known for bringing together sociologists from varied areas of specialization on one platform. Known for holding conferences and workshops on themes of national and international importance, ISS has collaborated with IUST for the two-day international conference from 6 to 7 September 2022. It is the first World Congress on Sociology to be held in Kashmir. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo who is the patron of the conference has lauded the painstaking efforts of the University employees in organising such events.
The conference has been organized in a hybrid mode with scholars and academicians from different parts of the world participating and sharing their erudite scholarship. Some of the prominent delegates who will be discussing and debating their cutting-edge scholarship hail from American University of Beirut, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Banaras Hindu University, Jamia Millia Islamia, University of Lucknow, Central University of Odisha, University of Allahabad, and all Universities of J&K.
The conference aims to address sweeping issues related to the age of globalisation and social change like cultural diversities, social transformation and national identity from the perspective of diverse viewpoints and approaches. It shall involve the ever increasing integration of these aspects between nations, regions and communities. The papers included are diverse and include overviews, empirical studies, theoretical reflections and critical engagements with regard to society, culture and social change. The conference will feature concurrent sessions in different locations of IUST alongside symposia and plenary sessions.
