Srinagar: The Maiden week long Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) Programme on “Organic Potato Cultivation”organized by KrishiVigyan Kendra Bandipora-II (Gurez) at Mountain Agriculture Research & Extension Station, Izmarg-Gurez of SKUAST-Kashmir.
Sixteen tribal youth from selected villages of Bagtore participated in the said training programme which commenced on August 26th 2022.The training programme was organized in association with State Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (SAMETI-Kashmir) J&K and National Institute of Agriculture Extension Management (MANAGE).various technical sessions were held which includes power point presentations by the scientists of the Station and expert from the Potato Seed development farm (Gurez) of department of Agriculture Govt. of J&K.
During the course of the programme field demonstrations were also held. The main focus of the training programme was the adoption of organic cultural practices, application of bio-fertilizers, post-harvest management of Potato crop. The disease management through bio-control measures, bio-priming of Potato tubers was emphasized during the programme by the concerned experts.
The Participants were also apprised about the significance of Framer Producer organizations for better marketing of the organic produce and other extension strategies for promotion of organic farming in the valley of Gurez. The valedictory function of the programme was held at main campus of Mountain Agriculture Research and Extension Station, Izmarg-Gurez of SKUAST-Kashmir and Colonel Rajesh Kumar Commanding Officer 98 Mobile Field Veterinary hospital HQ 39 Mountain division Palampur, Himachal Pradesh was the chief guest on the occasion. During the event certificates were distributed amongst the participants of the training programme.
