Teachers’ Delegation meets Principal

Secretary School Education Deptt, discuss several academic, service matters

Srinagar: A High-Level delegation of Teachers met Principal Secretary, School Education Department (SED), Alok Kumar in his office chambers on Wednesday and discussed relevant academic and service matters with him.
The delegation, while welcoming Mr. Kumar, presented a couple of memorandums to the officer regarding introduction of Departmental Examinations for promotions, Grade Pay Enhancement and Notional Increments for two years probation period.
Stressing on the competition and competence, the delegation requested the principal secretary to initiate the process for departmental examinations for promotions at an earliest to lay a strong base for skilled, talented and multi-tasking manpower.
“The examination based promotions for teachers, masters and other staff will bring competition and competence in the department. It will also test the degrees and push forward quality manpower for better output in the department,” it said.
Following the scrapping of SO 192, the delegation demanded that the employees who were denied annual increments under now scrapped SO 192 for two-year probation period, be given notional effect of annual increments for that period to avoid pay anomaly which may arise later if notional increments are again denied to such employees.
Recalling the past instances, the delegation said that the employees were promised that they will now be equal in terms of salary and other benefits, with other employees in the rest of India. “However, it didn’t happen at all. Teachers in other Union Territories are paid salaries under Grade-Pays of between 4200 to 4800. In Jammu and Kashmir, however, teachers are paid salaries under Grade-Pay of 2800. Government should enhance our Grade-Pay to at least 4200,” they said.
The delegation also pressed for regular training, end to mid-session deployments and upgradation of infrastructure in all educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir.
The Principal Secretary gave a patient hearing to all the demands and assured that they will look into the demands and, wherever possible, will follow the necessary action.
