National Handloom Day celebrated at Leh, Ladakh

SRINAGAR: National Handloom Day was celebrated and organized by NABARD on 12/08/2022 at Shangrila Hotel Conference Hall Leh, Ladakh. The programme was jointly organized by Directorate of Industries and Commerce, SKUAST- Kashmir and NGO Tata Trust; in which different stakeholders, Director Planning, SKUAST-K, Dr. H.R. Naik, galaxy of male and female artisans and weavers, Managers, Programme Coordinator KVK Nyoma participated. Mr Laksh Singer, Skill Development Officer was the Chief Guestand Dr. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension SKUAST-K was the Guest of Honor. During this programme different stake holder, handloom weavers, Bank Managers,
KVK Nyoma Programme coordinator Dr. Jigmet Yangchan was present.
Mr Tsewang Dorje DDM Leh briefed the activities taken up under Skill Development under
Handloom through NABARD in the Cold arid region. Beside that Director Extension SKUAST-K appreciated the NABARD team and also explained the importance and utility of Animal Wool especially Pashmina Goat, Yak, double humped camel, changthani sheep and pleaded for its quality improvement. He also request to NABARD to provide project to weavers so that they can do with the market by getting their handloom products branded, Geo tagged and getting presentable packaging to boost their business. Laksha Singer also
focused to recognize the Handloom work and support “NABARD” played an important role in this sector. In last NABARD felicitated all master weavers and trophies were presented to them to boost up their Skill in the field of Handlooms
