16th WEKAF championship: Feroz, Maroof win bronze medals

PAMPORE: Feroz Ahmad Ganaie and Maroof Hilal Sofi have bagged bronze medal respectively in the 16th World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (WEKAF) World championship held at Philippines.
Both Feroz and Maroof are from Pampore area.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader Feroz said “I fought against players from USA, Philippines and Malaysia” I am happy with my performance.”
30 year old Feroz has won 14 gold medals at national level as well as International levels, six silver medals in national level and two bronze medals at various International and national level.
Feroz is also head coach of five martial art academies in Pulwama district. So far he has trained more than 500 boys and girls. At present he is imparting training to 300 players in martial art.
While as Maroof Hilal Sofi also bagged bronze medal in the championship he said he feels proud after winning bronze medal.
Maroof claimed so far has won six gold medals at national level.
20 year old Maroof started practicing martial art when he was just eight year old, since then he has participated in different tournaments at International, state and national level.
“I was one among the martial art players from India who took part in Arnis federation championship,” Maroof Hilal Sofi told Kashmir Reader.
“Next time I will win gold,” he said, adding he will practice more for qualifying Asian Olympic Games.
He expressed gratitude to District administration for supporting him.
