GDC Anantnag students, faculty visit Saffron Research Centre SKUAST-K Dusso Pampore

PAMPORE: Students and Professors and other staff members of the government Degree College Anantnag visited the Advanced Research Station for Saffron and Seed Spices SKUAST-K at Dusoo Pampore and met head of the Research Centre.
About 60 students of Botany and Seed Technology faculty of government degree College Khanabal visited Advanced Reasearch Station Dusoo, SKUAST-Kashmir and Indian International Kashmir Saffron Trade Center (IIKSTC) Dusoo Pampore, officials told Kashmir Reader.
Head of Research Centre Dr Bashir Ahmad Allaie, other officials of Research Centre Dusoo and Irshad Ahmad Dar, a progressive young former and member of Kisan Advisory Board were present on the occasion.
They briefed the students and Professors about Saffron Production, Saffron Cultivation, Indoor Saffron Cultivation, marketing, Technology and others.
They told the students that he has a mission to spread Saffron to every nook and corner.
” The aim of the programme was to develop interest in younger generation for saffron,” Head of Department of Reasearch Station Dusoo Dr Bashir Ahmad Allaie told Kashmir Reader.
He added that students were briefed about various technologies developed for increasing saffron production.
” The students were briefed about both in field and outdoor cultivation methods of saffron,” he said, adding that youth can saffron cultivation has scope for involving youth.
He told Kashmir Reader that such programs will be continued in future.
Muneeb Yaqoob, 3rd Semester student at GDC Anantnag told Kashmir Reader that they were given useful knowledge about Saffron Cultivation, Saffron Indoor Cultivation, its varieties, areas where it is grown, marketing and other things.
” The program increased our knowledge and we learnt many new things about this crop,” he said, adding that he and many of his friends didn’t know anything about the research centre.
Kisan Advisory Board member Irshad Ahmad Dar told Kashmir Reader that his mission is take Saffron to every district of Kashmir Valley.
He said that he has already taken it to Degree College Baramulla.
” My mission is to motivate youth towards Saffron Cultivation,” he said.
