Mohmad Mohsin from Global Business Services, Malaysia & Prof. Tariq Ashraf from Jamia Millia Islamia delivered lectures at IUST

Prof. Tariq Ashraf (Information Professional, Jamia Millia Islamia)and Mir Mohmad Mohsin (Head ODS Delivery Standard Chartered Global Business Services), delivered special lectures at IUST today.
The lecture by Prof. Ashraf on the topic Academic Integrity and Research Ethics: Maintaining, Measuring and Maximising Research Impact was organized by the Department of Islamic Studiesto expose the students and research scholars to the advanced techniques of academic writing and discourage plagiarism and intellectual theft at all levels. Discussing the nitty-gritties of research, the resource person said, “Plagiarism, republishing one’s own work in different journals, lack of proper in-text citations are some main issues that are prevalent in academics these days.” “The researchers and academicians need to be aware of the difference between plagiarism and Similarity index that is detected by AI aided software like Turnitin, Urkund, Ithenticate etc. Similarity doesn’t always mean plagiarism. It is sometimes detected because of lack of proper citations and absence of quotation marks,” he added. Welcoming the speaker, Prof. AfrozeBisati (Head, Department of Islamic Studies) talked about the initiatives taken by Rumi Library in encouraging quality research at the varsity.
Mohmad Mohsin, an engineering industry expert from Malaysia focussed his lecture on Navigating IT Industry. The session organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the university was aimed to expose the trainee computer engineers to the industry demands with respect to advanced technological innovations in the IT industry. “The demands of the engineering industry has changed drastically in light of the new technological advancements in this field. The field needs innovative ideas combined with technological skills to provide solutions to the contemporary global problems”, said Mr. Mohsin. The expert speaker discussed in length about the skillset required in present engineers. Welcoming the speaker and the participants of the session, Dr. Aasif Assad (Head Department of Computer Sciences & Engineering) throw light on multiple initiatives that are being adopted by the university to narrow the gap between academia and industry.The session was coordinated by Dr. Sajaad Lone and Dr. Aasif Ali Banks presented vote of thanks.
