Srinagar: A review meeting of all All India Coordinated Research Projects and Network Projects operational at various Faculties and Research Stations of SKUAST-K was held under the chairmanship of Director Research Prof. Sarfaraz, A. Wani.
The purpose of the review meeting was to evaluate the progress for the efficient and effective implementation of the projects. SKUAST-K operates twenty-five AIRCPs, including voluntary centres and network projects in diverse agricultural, horticultural, and livestock sectors.
The meeting was attended by Principal Investigators, their project staff, and the Scientific staff of the Directorate of Research, including Associate Directors and Assistant Director. The Principal investigators gave detailed PowerPoint presentations of the progress made in their respective projects.
The house was informed that numerous technologies have been developed, tested, and released under these projects. These include high-yielding climate-resilient and disease-resistant seed varieties, new poultry varieties, innovative methods for controlling plant pests, weed control, and Agroforestry models, improved varieties in floriculture and package and practices for medicinal and aromatic plants, among others.
During the deliberations, some of the critical research issues that were highlighted include the management of invasive pests in horticultural crops due to the import of planting material, the organic agricultural module for various crops and the demand for breeder seed.
The Director of Research stressed upon the scientists to work in collaborative mode for developing comprehensive package of technologies for farming community. He also stressed for keeping in loop Directorate of Research while conducting such programmes for farming community. He highlighted the importance of such review meetings and emphasized on periodic review of all AICRP and externally funded in future also will help the institution torealizethe dream of being top notch institution at national and global level.
