Entrepreneurship programme on harvest and post-harvest management in fish concludes

SRINAGAR: Three day training cum demonstration programme on “Entrepreneurship development among schedule tribe communities through harvest and post-harvest management of fish” conducted by Faculty of Fisheries in collaboration withICAR- CIFT, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India concluded on 6th July, 2022 at KVK Ganderbal. A total of twenty participants belonging to the ST community eagerly participated in the programme. The aim of the training programme was to instil an attitude of entrepreneurship among the tribal youth to ameliorate their socio-economic condition.
The valedictory session was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) Dil Mohammad MakhdoomiDirector Extension SKUAST K. Prof. (Dr.) Goher Bilal Wani, Nodal Officer, ICAR-CIFT, SKUAST-K, Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist & Head KVK Ganderbal, Dr. Anayatullah Chesti, (Head, Aquaculture Division), Dr. Tariq HussainBhat (Head, Post-Harvest Technology Division) and Dr. Ashwani Kumar (Head, Fish Nutrition and Biochemistry Division) were present in the session. The session was also attended by scientific and supporting staff of KVK Ganderbal. Prof. (Dr.) Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship development among youth of district Ganderbal. He emphasized on the trainees to take inspiration from fish entrepreneurs across the country and encouraged them to take up fisheries as a venture for emploayment generation in the district. Dr. Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Ganderbal thanked the Chief Guest and informed that KVK Ganderbal will take lead in providing technological support to budding entrepreneurs to promote production, harvest and post-harvest management of fishes at grass root level in collaboration with district administration, line departments and ICAR. He also informed that marketing channels will be explored to make this sector sustainable for rural youth.
Prof. (Dr.) Goher Bilal Wani, briefed about the activities conducted by faculty in collaboration with KVK Ganderbal for skill development of rural youth.He informed the gathering about the work plan of the training programme, which included expert lectures on harvest and post-harvest technology in fishes and exposure visits. The certificates were distributed by Prof. (Dr.) Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi among the participants. The participants gave their feedback about the programme and expressed desire for conduct of such programmes in future also. The programme concluded with formal vote of thanks by Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Head Fish Nutrition and Biochemistry Division.
