Three days entrepreneurship programme on production, value addition in fishes for ST youth started at KVK Ganderbal

Srinagar: Keeping in view the essence of harvest and post-harvest management of fishes and to develop entrepreneurship among the budding youth of STcommunity of district Ganderbal, Faculty of Fisheries in association with KVK Ganderbal, under the mentorship of Prof. (Dr.) Dil Mohammad Makhdoomistarted three days training cum demonstration programme on “Entrepreneurship development among schedule tribe communities through harvest and post-harvest management of fishes” today on 4th July, 2022. The training is being conducted under TSP, in collaboration with ICAR- CIFT, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India.
The programme started with a welcome address byProf.(Dr.) Goher Bilal Wani (Head, Division of Fishery Engg.) who presented the overall scenario of harvest and post-harvest management of fishes and the avenues for entrepreneurship development through the fisheries sector. Prof. Wani also thanked Prof. (Dr.) Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST K and Prof. (Dr.) Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension SKUAST K and other university authorities for supporting such programmes. DrIshfaqAbidi, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Ganderbal emphasized the importance of inculcating entrepreneurship among the youth to empower them to be more independent and self-reliant. He also highlighted the role of KVK in entrepreneurship development by imparting skill training to the rural youth. The programme was attended by scientific and supporting staff of the Faculty of Fisheries including Dr. AnayatullahChesti, Dr. Tariq Hussain Bhat and Dr. Ashwani Kumar. The inaugural session was hosted by Dr. Shabir Ahmad, Asst. Prof.,Division of Fishery Engg.
The training cum demonstration will include expert lectures from various resource persons apart from exposure visits. Twenty participants belonging to the ST community have registered for the programme and showed keen interest to make their mark in fisheries sector of the district. The inaugural session concluded with the formal vote of thanks by FaiqaSyeed, Programme Assistant KVK Ganderbal.
