One Day National Conference on “Better Data Better Lives held at VB college

Srinagar: One Day National Conference on “Better Data Better Lives” on national statistics day was held at Vishwa Bharati Womens College Rainwari Srinagar Kashmir to celebrate 129th birth anniversary of Professor P.C.Mahalanobis, popularly known as father of statistics in India.
Organizer(s) of the conference,Dr. Syed Javed Iqbal Kamili, Principal Vishwa Bharti Women’s college & Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Head, Division of Social Science, FoFy, SKUAST-K briefed about the objective of the Programme by highlighting the importance of providing a platform to the researchers to learn about the modern tools of Statistics and emerging techniques used nowadays along with the advancement in computing facilities.
While sharing the details of the program, organizers said that such conference educate the students/researchers/faculty members to correctly use the tools of Statistics invalidating their research findings and sensitize the public as to how Statistics helps in shaping and framing policies.
Prof. Ronika Yousuf, Organizing secretary of the conference anchored whole program. In the conference more than 80 researchers had registered for participation in the conference across the country and 20 scholars presented their papers via oral/poster mode.The researchers shared their findings in the form of paper and poster presentations in various technical sessions organized during the day.Professor Javid Iqbal Kamili,Principal, Vishwa Bharti Womens College inaugurated the Conference and delivered the welcome address. Professor Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Patron of conference discussed in brief about the life of great Scientist P.C.Mahalanobis.
Hemant Kumar Lohia, senior IPS officer, the Commandant General, HG/CD and SDRF, was the Chief Guest for the day. In his address he discussed in detail about P.C.Mahalanobis contribution, Big Data and importance of Statistics in different fields in the modern era.He impressed upon the participants to be ready to learn about latest techniques available for handling the diverse and large data. Prof Aquil Ahmed, Head, Dept. of Statistics & O.R. was the Guest of honour and in his speech he explained in brief the role of statistics in research and day today lives. He presented some practical examples where statistics is useful.
After the Inaugural session Technical session-I and Technical Session-II were held immediately. In technical Session-I, Professor Syed Javid Iqbal Kamili, Principal Vishwa Bharti Womens College chaired the session in which three lead lectures were held. Er. Abdul Rashid showed the documentary on climate change and explained causes and ways to adapt to climate change.
