Four persons arrested for poppy cultivation in Pampore village

PAMPORE: The Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested four persons who were involved in illegal cultivation of banned poppy in Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
SDPO Pampore, Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad, told Kashmir Reader that they arrested four farmers who were involved in illegal cultivation of poppy in their fields.
A First Information Report in this case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Pampore.
The case details revealed that a team of police from Pampore station led by SHO Pampore Adil Ashraf along with revenue department and Excise department destroyed standing poppy cultivation in Samboora village last month.
” An FIR bearing registration number 53/2022
under section 8/18-C of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was filed against these four persons for growing poppy on their land,” SDPO Pampore, Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad told Kashmir Reader, adding that they were identified and formally arrested.
He said police, revenue and excise departments launched a vigorous campaign against cultivation of poppy.
He said that majority of farmers stayed away from cultivation of poppy.
However, these four persons defied police warnings and cultivated their land with poppy.
He said that poppy cultivation breeds peddling.
Persons found indulging in drug peddling and cultivation of contraband substances shall be dealt as per law.
Pampore Police has again made an appeal to the general public to support police in its war against drugs and provide information to the police station Pampore and Khrew.
