Anemia Free Baramulla Campaign launched by Piramal Foundation and District Admin Baramulla

Free medical camp held at Bernate, Boniyar

Baramulla: As part of the Aspirational Districts Collaborative (ADC), Piramal Foundation in collaboration with the District Administration Baramulla started Anemia Free Baramulla (AFB) campaign customized in line with National Health Mission’s (NHM) Anemia Mukt Bharat. The campaign was launched from the premises of New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) Bernate with support from Government High School Bernate of block Boniyar. Various departments such as Health & Family Welfare, Education, ICDS, Panchayati Raj, are converging in this campaign.
As part of the launch, Block Medical Officer Boniyar, Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi, organized a free medical camp at Bernate with the help of Mobile Medical Unit (MMU), Baramulla. Close to 400 people received free medical check-up among which 84 people were tested for Anemia. The main target population in the camp were adolescent girls in the age group of 10-19. About 15 people tested at the camp were found Anemic.
Speaking at the occasion BMO Boniyar assured the public that the department will be holding more such camps in future. “We will bring all the departments together under ADC and work to improve our health and nutrition indicator,” Dr. Parvez said. Echoing his sentiments, CDPO Boniyar, Miss. Nisaara Begum pledged all the support from the ICDS department to make AFB campaign a success. “We will specifically target those children found anemic in today’s testing and focus on improving their nutrition”, she added.
District Program Lead, Piramal Foundation, Mr. Krishna said that based on the successes in Bernate – which will be their focus for the next three months – AFB campaign will be unrolled across the district.
It is pertinent to mention here that Piramal Foundation is the implementing partner of NITI Aayog in ADC program which is currently run in 112 districts across the country. In Jammu & Kashmir, Baramulla and Kupwara are two aspirational districts where Piramal Foundation is currently working to improve the Health & Nutrition and Education indicators.
