4 persons along with livestock, stuck in rising waters rescued in Awantipora

PAMPORE: Timely action by Civil Administration and Police rescued a group of nomand after they got trapped in the flood water along with their livestock around 100 Sheep and were shifted to safer place in Pampore on Wednesday.
The persons were stranded on an island within river Jhelum at Letterbal Kadlabal area of Pampore.
Tehsildar Pampore Zubair Ahmad Bhat (KAS) told Kashmir Reader that a group of namands comprising four persons were grazing their sheep and were stranded to increase water level in the Jhelum during the heavy rain.
He said that they received information about four persons along with Sheep trapped in river Jhelum, he along with Tehsil official Mir Murwat Hussian and a team of revenue department immediately reached the spot and launched a rescue operation to evacuate the civilians along with livestock.
Later, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Baseer-Ul-Haq Choudhary, SSP Awantipora Mohammad Yousuf along with Additional Deputy Commissioner Awantipora Zaffar Husson Shawl, SDPO Pampore Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad and SHO Pampore Adil Ashraf reached the spot and monitored the rescue operation.
After the three hours efforts of the Tehsil administration Pampore and police, Pampore rescued the group of nomads along with livestock including 100 sheeps and two dogs.
The stranded persons were rescued with boats along with their sheep to safer places.
” A family was stranded in water in Pampore, Tehsil Pampore received the information and many rescue teams launched an operation and the family along with cattle were rescued in time,” Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Baseer-Ul-Haq Choudhary said.
He also issued an advisory for Pulwama residents.
” The people in Awantipora, Kakapora and Pampore should not go near Jhelum river as it is flowing above the danger mark in these areas,” he said.
Irrigation and flood control department led by Assistant Engineer Irrigation Pampore Younis Majeed, Gujjar community member Zakir Choudhary and other officials also present during the rescue operation.
Gujjar Community member Zakir Choudhary and locals have lauded the efforts and swift action of the Tehsildar Pampore, his team and police Pampore for rescue and saving precious lives.
Tehsildar Pampore said that the rescued include Mohammad Iqbal resident of Rajouri, who is presently putting up at Zafran colony along with three others had crossed over to Zuv area for grazing his livestock and were stuck there after water level quickly.
