Scientific Advisory Committee Meetings of KVK Kulgam, KVK Shopian held

Srinagar: 17th Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting of KVK Kulgam and 10th Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting of KVK Shopian was conducted at KVK Shopian on 16-06-2022 in presence of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganie and Director Extension SKUAST-K. Chief agricultural officer District Shopian,Farooq Ahmad Reshi, Principal Govt. Degree College Shopian, Prof. Bashir Ahmad Dar, SDO Sheep Husbandry District Shopian, Basharat Ahmad, President Pesticide Dealers Association Shopian , Peerzada Shabir Ahmad, Champaign Farmers from District Shopian, Officers from Department of Horticulture and Department of Animal Husbandry District Shopian,Member from Civil Society-Shopian, Scientists from MRCFC Khudwani and Ambri Apple Research Centre, Pahnoo, KVK Kulgam and KVK Shopian participated in the SAC meetings.
Dr. Parmeet Singh (Senior Scientist and Head KVK Shopian and Dr. Tasneem Mubarak (Senior Scientist and Head KVK Kulgam) presented the work done by the respected KVKs during 2021-22 and action plan ( 2022-23).
Vice chancellor congratulated the concerned KVKs for the work they have done during 2021-22 and highlighted the need for decreasing the production cost of apple and pesticide residues. Hon’ble Vice chancellor also informed the plans of the SKUAST – K to start Vocational Training Programs for Skill Development in near future. He also stressed upon the need to establish FPOs for profitable branding and marketing of the agricultural produce, especially the organic products. He also highlighted the need for modernization of agriculture with long lasting goals.
Director Extension SKAUST-K assured the officers from the line departments that their feedback regarding the action plan 2022-23 will be paid due consideration.
Chief Agricultural Officer Shopian, stressed upon the need to increase the yield of Hurpora Potato and that the high density apple orchards should be planted as per the land suitability for profitable yield and quality. He also emphasized the need for customizing the structure of polyhouses for high snow Kashmir Conditions.
Principal Govt Degree College Shopian requested the Hon’ble vice to collaborate in imparting training to the college students of basic scientific horticultural practices in apple under Certificate CourseProgramme of the college.
Member civil society raised the demand for establishing SKUAST-K sub-center in the District Shopian.
SDO sheep husbandry emphasized the need for pure breeding of Corriedale sheep breed, broiler sheep farming and training of the concerned farmers in wool grading and packing.
Campaignfarmers , officers from the line departments and civil society members thanked the KVKs for their role in guiding the farming community in ensuring sustainable and profitable agriculture production.
