Environmental Week celebration also held

SRINAGAR: Environmental week celebrations were held at College of Temperate Sericulture, SKUAST-K Mirgund in which among other scientists of the college all the students also participated. The idea was to inculcate among students the importance of environment and its protection for the sustainability of life on biosphere. Speaking on the occasion Prof. M. F. Baqual, Associate Dean of the College gave the geneses of environmental week celebration and debated upon the relevance of conducting such event whose theme for the current year is ONLY ONE EARTH. Prof. Baqual while thanking Honourable Vice Chancellor of SKUAST, Prof. Nazir Ahmed Ganaie for encouraging conduct of such events, underlined the importance of plants and advised all the students to ensure that they effectively take part in plantation drives organized by the college from time to time and make it a point that each one of them plants as much plants as they can. This will not only result in receding the impact of global warming but at the same time plants particularly mulberry besides being food for silkworms is also the best carbon sequestering plant. Earlier Incharge Division of Basic Science and Humanities Dr. M. R. Mir detailed out the significance of keeping environment pollution free. During the event many activities in the shape of skits and interactive sessions where held by students symbolizing the importance of protecting environment. At last Dr. I. L. Khan Assistant Professor delivered vote of thanks.
