VC SKUAST-K visits Faculty of Agriculture Wadura

Inaugurates Wheat Field day, Vice Chancellors Sports Festival & Remedial Courses at the Campus

SRINAGAR: Prof. Nazir A. Ganai, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir visited the Faculty of Agriculture Wadura Campus to inaugurate Wheat Field Day, Vice-Chancellors Sports Festival-2022 & various remedial courses .He was accompanied by Prof. Haroon Rashid Naik Director Planning, Prof. M. M.A. Siddique Dean Students Welfare Officer, Er. Parvaiz Ahmad Estates Officer, SKUAST-K to commemorate the occasion. The officers of the Agriculture Production Department of District Baramulla & Kupwara were also present on the occasion.
Prof. Raihana, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, highlighted the role of early maturing wheat in the adoption of rice-wheat cropping system in the valley. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor in his address highlighted the role of high yielding cereals, pulses and oilseeds released by SKUAST-K in enhancing the crop productivity and congratulated the scientists for breeding these revolutionary varieties. While interacting with the farmers, Vice Chancellor emphasized on the role of adoption of University bred varieties and the need for shifting towards high value crops on small farms for enhancing their income. During the programme seed of Shalimar Rajmash-3, Shalimar Rajmash-4 & Shalimar Cowpea-1 was distributed among farmers.
The weeklong Vice-Chancellors sports festival-2022 was also inaugurated at the sports stadium of the Faculty of Agriculture ,Wadura Campus with an aim to inculcate sportsmanship, unity, discipline, physical fitness and give a vent to the stress of academics and research to the students. The programme is being organized by Dean Students Welfare Office, SKUAST-K. Prof. Nazir A. Ganai, Vice-Chancellor addressed the gathering and expressed his happiness and contentment over the healthy participation of young and energetic students in various sports activities of the Faculty and advised them for their whole hearted participations in future inter/intra sports activities, besides the academics programmes. Prof. M. M.A. Siddique, Dean Students Welfare Officer emphasized the role of such events in promoting sportsmanship and ensure physical fitness of the students. Ajaz Ahmad Qureshi SWO introduced the students representing various events such as cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, kabbadi, kho kho, carrom, chess, short and long run, table tennis and traditional local games of Kashmir valley.
Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor also inaugurated the four remedial courses which includes i) Rendezvous with statistics and economics:- A data science approach, ii) Genetics & Plant breeding, iii) Molecular breeding & biotechnology and iv) Seed science & technology under the World Bank-ICAR funded National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) for the institutional development of SKUAST-K. The Vice-chancellor applauded the team NAHEP and the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture for creating such facilities, which would create an enabling environment for the students. These courses will help the undergraduate students of the University for a good performance in ICAR-JRF, SRF and other entrance as well as national competitive examinations. On this occasion, Vice Chancellor stated that these facilities will help in shaping smart agriculture education.
