Continuing Extension Education Programme held at SKUAST-K

Srinagar: Directorate of Extension on Wednesday organized a continuing extension education programme for fertilizer and input dealers and DAESI candidates at Shalimar Campus in which Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai was the Chief Guest. Prof. Ananta Giri, Madras Institute of Development Studies, Chennai was Guest speaker who spoke on “With and Beyond Sustainable Development: New Horizons of Planetary Heart works and Ecosattivic Badhichitta and the Calling of Evolutionary Flourishing”. The prominent officers on dice included Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdomi, Director Extension, Prof. M.N. Khan, Director Education and Prof. AnantaGiri, Guest speaker. The Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai expressed the dire need of organizing such continued extension education programmes for building character and invoking the ethical values among youth. He praised Prof. Ananta Giri and appreciated Director Extension, Prof. Dil Mohammd Makhdoomi for organizing such programmes. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor expressed his concern over indiscriminate use of pesticide and fertilizer. He stressed on the best practices for preventing and managing pests by judicious use of pesticides.
Director Extension, Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi stressed for adhering to the importance of extension and its services for improvement and overall development of agriculture. He appreciated using bio-pesticides, bio-fertilizers and vermi-composting in use and said that we should practice multiple cropping systems.
In his lecture, Prof. Ananta Giri said that the Agricultural Revolution was possible only because of the collaboration of scientists, extension workers and bankers. He stressed upon minimum use of pesticides and said that Sustainable agriculture is related with sustainable development and dealing with people means dealing with climate. He also said that dealing with pesticides means dealing with the environment, climate and soil. He concluded with the remarks that we should work with honesty, sincerity, truthfulness, dedicatedly and respectfully and said that Biodiversity is linked with cultural diversity, we need creativity with courage and adventure.
