Shopian: A team of scientists of the Division of Entomology Faculty of Horticulture participated in mass awareness camp in collaboration with KVK Shopian at Zainapora near SDM office organized by Department of Horticulture GoJK to sensitize the orchardists about the problem of Apple blotch leafminer and its containment strategies.
The experts urged the orchardists to strictly adhere to the adhoc advisory given by SKUAST K as it has been observed that the majority of orchardists have not sprayed insecticides mentioned in the adhoc advisory against this insect pest. The experts and officials of the Department of Horticulture stressed that any laxity at this point could have disastrous consequences on the fruit industry. The experts highlighted the role of collective approach in managing this insect pest and urged the stakeholders to undertake the management practices at community level to break the life cycle of this pest.
The team also paida visit to Advanced Centre for Horticultural Development (ACHD) Zainapora Department of Horticulture to assess the outcome of the containment strategies devised by SKUAST K against blotch leaf miner and expressed satisfaction over the successful control of the pest at Zainapora farm.
