High yielding varieties of bean, maize distributed by SKUAST at Naristan Tral

TRAL: Share Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology Kashmir (SKUAST-K) organised a camp for distribution of high yielding varieties of maize and bean seed in Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.
The camp was held by varsity’s Krishi Vaigyan Kendra at Naristan village of sub division Tral, officials told Kashmir Reader.
During the camp free seeds of high yielding varieties of maize and beans were distributed to many progressive farmers.
An awareness programme was also held during the occasion.
A number of farmers including woman’s were present during the programme.
Masrat Shafi, head of KVK Malangpora, Dr Syed Sujat, Dr Rayees Ahmad, Irshad Ahmad Dar, Member Kisan Advisory board and other officials were also present during the occasion, officials from KVK Malangpora told Kashmir Reader.
” Farmers in Naristan area grow beans and maize and we were looking to organize a programme here for providing high yielding varieties of maize and beans to them,” Masrat Shafi, head of concerned KVK said, adding that the seeds are being prepared by SKUAST.
She added that the seeds are of good quality.
” If farmers adopt these seeds the production will double and raise income of farmers,” she said.
She told Kashmir Reader that by growing beans farmers can also fullfill their protein requirement.
” Increase in production of these good quality beans will ensure that farmers will get protein nourishment for their body,” she said.
The local farmers of Naristan village of Tral appreciated SKUAST for providing them free of cost seeds of high quality maize and beans.
The people hoped that the varsity would help them in acquiring new technology and techniques to improve their standard of living.
