Program on ‘Women Empowerment & the Challenge of Acid Attacks’ organized at GDC Dogam

Srinagar: A One-Day Awareness Program on Women Empowerment & the Challenge of Acid Attacks was jointly organized by Debates & Seminar Committee (D&SC) and Women Development Cell of Govt. Degree College Sogam (Lolab) in collaboration with Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) Sogam, Kupwara on 31st March 2022. Prof. Mohammad Shafi Lone (Principal, GDC Sogam) was the patron of the event and the Conveners were Dr Tauseef Ahmad Parray (Asstt. Prof., Islamic Studies; Convener, D&SC) and Prof. Ishfaq Hussain Bhat (Asstt. Prof., English; Member, D&SC).
The event started with the recitation of the Quranic verses by Ms Iqra Mushtaq followed by the Naat by Mr Mohd. Irshad Lone (both 3rd Sem students). The Seminar was (jointly) moderated by Prof. Ishfaq Hussain Bhat (who also spoke about the objectives of this program) and Prof. Javaid Hassain (Asst. Prof., Urdu).
In his’ Welcome Address’, the worthy Principal formally welcomed the guests/ Resource Persons and all the participants and laid emphasis on the importance of organizing such awareness programs.
There were four (4) Resource Persons for the said event who spoke on socio-religious and legal dimensions of the theme, namely Muzammil Ahmad Wani (Sub-Judge/ Secretary, DLSA, Kupwara), Imran Haneef Khan (Munsiff JMIC/ Chairman, TLSC, Sogam), Advocate Mohd. Shahid Bhat (JMIC, Sogam) and Mehnaza Rashid (Social Activist/ Alumni of GDC Sogam).
On this occasion, Five (5) students of GDC Sogam, namely Ms Salama Jahangeer (2nd Sem), Ms Rehana Wani (5th Sem), Mr Danish Fayaz Tantry (3rd Sem) and Ms Wahida Ahsan Wani (4th Sem) and Mr Peer Danish Bashir (5th Sem) also shared their views on this theme.
The Concluding Remarks were presented by Prof. Faizaan Farooq (Sr Asstt. Prof., Education), ‘Vote of Thanks’ was proposed by Prof. Sajad Ahmad (Asst. Prof., English) and the Repotteur of the event was Dr Tauseef Ahmad Parray. At the end, Mementos and Certificates were distributed among the resource persons, student speakers and organizers. The event was attended by a large number of students, NSS volunteers, staff members of the College and members of TLSC, Sogam.
