DARS Rangreth, MCRS Sangam hold awareness, seed distribution programme for tribal farmers

Srinagar: An awareness-cum-seed distribution programme under TSP Soyabean was organized by DARS Rangreth in collaboration with MCRS Sagam, SKUAST-K at Shalnad and Inderwan villages of Sagam Kokernag (District Anantnag). The programme was conceptualized by Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice-Chancellor and held under the directions of Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extensions.
Dr SA Dar(Professor and Incharge AICRP Soyabean), Dr Farooq ASheikh (Prof and Head MCRS Sagam), Riyaz A Malik (District Agriculture OfficerAnantnag), representative scientists from MCRS Sagam and DARS Rangrethgraced the event by their presence.
The tribal famers from both the villages participated in the programme. Dr Nazeer A Teli (Sr Scientist)welcomed the participantsfollowed by an overview and importance of ongoing tribal programmesby Dr SA Dar. He stressed and encouraged the tribal farmers to adopt the latest technologies provided by SKUAST-K for improving their livelihood with respect to soyabean cultivation.
Speaking on the occasion DrFA Sheikh, highlighted the nutritional value of soybean and its importance in agriculture.Dr Ajaz A Lone (Senior Scientist DARS)briefed the farmers on scientific cultivation and adoption oftechnologies related to value additionin soyabean. Mr Reyaz A Malik aware the tribal farmers regarding various ongoing agriculture activities of the area. Tribal farmers expressed happiness for conducting such type of trainings and desired to participate in more such programmes in future.Besides, they provided feedback regarding their challenges in their existing agricultural practices. At the end of the programme, the soyabean seed, implement kits and tarpaulin were distributed amongst the tribal farmersby the concerned scientists and officers from line department. The programme was concluded by vote of thanks presented by Dr. Showkat A Waza (Assistant Professor MCRS) Sagam.
