Srinagar-Leh highway opens for LMVs

Ganderbal: Srinagar-Leh highway was thrown open for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) on Friday, nearly two-and-half months since the road was closed for vehicular traffic during winters, an official said.
On Friday, the vehicles carrying essential supplies were allowed to move towards Leh from Sonamarg.
As per the notification issued by the Office of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, traffic will ply on the highway on odd days from today. It said that from Leh to Srinagar traffic will ply on even days and cut off time for vehicles shall remain 6 am at Sonamarg and 8:30 am from Kargil side at Meenamarg.
Besides, no traffic shall be allowed on Fridays for carrying out maintenance.
“Movement of only anti-skid chained or 4×4 and mechanically sound vehicles shall be allowed on the axis besides vehicles should not be overloaded and should carry load as per permissible,” an official spokesperson said.
