College of Temperate Sericulture, SKUAST-K organizes Technology Demonstration Programme cum Plantation Drive

SRINAGAR: College of Temperate Sericulture SKUAST- K, Mirgund concluded two days Technology Demonstration Programme which was sponsored by Department of Science Technology and Innovation Council J and K. The programme was jointly inaugurated by Prof. Haroon Rashid Naik Director Project Planning and Monitoring, SKUAST-K, Additional Director Department of Science Technology and Innovation Council Dr. N. A. Shah and Mr. Bilal Ahmed Joint Director of the Department. About 75 farmers participated in two days programme which was aimed at imparting awareness to the stake holders of sericulture industry about the technologies generated by College and the impact of their adoption. The display of various exhibits for easy understanding of the technologies was also arranged for benefit of beneficiaries. Speaking on the valedictory function held on 16th of March 2022, Honble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmed who was the chief guest desired that such technologies be adopted in full for increased cocoon productivity and advised all the rearers to conduct silkworm rearing on scientific lines for sustainable income.
Three days plantation drive was also kick started by Honble Vice Chancellor who distributed four to five hundred mulberry plants among rearers. Prof. Nazir Ahmed also planted mulberry plants in the campus and advised planters to take full precautions while planting mulberry trees which besides providing the leaf for silkworm rearing will also improve the air quality surrounding the area. Prof. M. F. Baqual, Associate Dean of the College of Temperate Sericulture while expressing his gratitude to Honble Vice Chancellor for having supported the plantation drive advised the rearers to ensure that plants are planted in the vicinity of their rearing house/space for effective and purposeful utilization of mulberry leaf. He said that the process of distributing plants will continue for another two days for the rearers of village proposed to be adopted under College linked Village Adoption Programme.
