Director Agriculture reviews the preparedness for valley wide vegetable seedling distribution drive

Distribution to start Thursday in phased manner

Srinagar: The Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal today took stock of the preparations for the valley wide distribution drive of vegetable seedlings among the farmers. He visited different seedling production installations including Seed Multiplication Farm Gangbug, , Seed Multiplication Farm Harran and Hi-tech poly house Kitchen Garden premises Lalmandi.
Director Agriculture impressed upon the concerned officers/technical experts to ensure that all the preparations for this valley wide campaign are completed well in time.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Agriculture said that to a very large extent Department has been successful in achieving the ambitious targets of providing the farmers with round the year availability of seedlings of different vegetable (traditional/exotic) crops. The paradigm shift in the agriculture scenario over the years and the introduction of new dimensions (Agri-entrepreneurship, growing popularity of vegetable cultivation among urban population, availability of diverse marketing models) are playing a driving role in the economic viability and ecological sustainability of the agriculture sector, he said, and added.
Director Agriculture said that the valley wide seedling distribution drive will commence from 24th of February 2022 in a phased manner. In addition to commercial vegetable cultivation, the vegetable enterprise is being adopted by the kitchen garden lovers, backyard farmers of the urban areas also, therefore raised the demand for vegetable seedlings manifold, he added.
Director Agriculture asked the concerned officers/technical experts to work in close coordination so that the valley wide seedling distribution drive could be made successful.
