Rain starts in Valley with MeT predicting more precipitation

Srinagar: Kashmir received rain on Wednesday with meteorological Centre Srinagar predicting a wet spell till next week.
According to MeT official Jammu and Kashmir is expected to receive fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rain and snow from February 2 to 4 with main activity on Thursday. It said there is possibility of isolated heavy rain and snow mainly in south Kashmir and Jammu region.
“Light rain/snow is also most likely at scattered places during 6-7th. Some places in Jammu region may receive thunderstorm/hailstorm on 3rd,” said the MeT official. “Overall weather is likely to remain erratic and partly to generally cloudy with occasional light snowfall at scattered places till 8th.”
In Srinagar and elsewhere, rain started in the afternoon resulting in dip in mercury across the Valley.
The minimum temperature across Kashmir dropped below the freezing point with Srinagar recording a low of minus 1.9 degrees Celsius nearly four degrees down from 1.8 degrees Celsius the previous night, they said.
Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 8.0 degrees Celsius up from minus 9.0 degrees Celsius the previous night
Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 6.1 degrees Celsius almost same as the previous night, they said.
Officials said Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius down from the previous night’s minus 0.3 degrees Celsius.
The nearby south Kashmir town of Kokernag recorded a low of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, they said, adding the mercury in north Kashmir’s Kupwara settled at a low of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius.
