Rains, snow in Kashmir with MeT predicting snow spells

Srinagar: Snow and rain lashed parts of Kashmir on Monday with Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Monday predicting two light snow spells this week.
It said that with light snowfall in plains and light to moderate snowfall over higher reaches of Valley, there would be light rain in Jammu region during 17th and 18th January.
The official further said that another spell of light to moderate snowfall would be observed from January 21 and 22.
“There is no forecast of any major rain or snowfall till the end of this month in both J&K and Ladakh,” the MeT official said.
A MeT official said a feeble Western Disturbance is affecting Jammu and Kashmir at present and subsequently, there is a possibility of light snowfall in plains of Kashmir and light to moderate snowfall over higher reaches of J&K and Ladakh during the night of January 17 and 18.
“Another spell of light to moderate snow in J&K is likely during January 21-22. There is no forecast of any major rain/snow till ending January in both the Union Territories,” the official said.
Meanwhile, as per the traffic advisory for tomorrow, the officials said that subject to fair weather and better road conditions LMVs (Passenger)/ private cars shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu (strictly one way) on Jammu-Srinagar highway.
It said that TCU Srinagar would liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing the traffic.
However, the officials said that some of the roads including Mughal Road, Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri Road and Kishtwar-Sinthan Road shall continue to remain closed for vehicular movement in view of snow accumulation.
