CUK celebrates National Mathematics Day

Ganderbal: Department of Mathematics, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) on Tuesday celebrated National Mathematics Day at Tulmulla Campus here. The day marks the birth anniversary of the Mathematical genius, Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Speaking on the occasion, Dean School of Physical and Chemical Sciences, Prof. Wali Mohammad Shah highlighted the importance of the celebration of this day and its long-term effects on the development of Mathematical culture at various levels in the country. Keynote speaker, Prof. S Peerzada, Head, Department of Mathematics, University of Kashmir, focused on the work of the legendary mathematician S Ramanujan. A lecture was also delivered by Prof. Bashir Ahmad Zargar on the life and work of noted mathematician of the Jammu and Kashmir, Prof. Abdul Aziz. He also emphasized the importance of Mathematics in all walks of life.
Dr. Aftab Ahmad Shah, Mr. G M Sofi, Dr. Shabir Ahmad Ahangar and Mr. Nitin A. Katake were among others who spoke on the occasion and highlighted various problems in teaching and learning of Mathematics at different levels and proposed certain measures to mitigate the same. Some students of the university also presented their talks in the daylong event.
Dr. Lubna Wali Shah conducted the proceedings while Dr. Aftab Hussain Shah proposed the vote of thanks.
