Seven Days STRY Training Inaugurated at College of Temperate Sericulture, Mirgund SKAUST-K

SRINAGAR: Seven Days STRY Training Programme on “Cocoon Craft Making-ValueAddition to Sericulture” was inaugurated at College of Temperate Sericulture, Mirgund (SKUAST-K) today on 21st Dec, 2021.
The programme is aimed at Skill Development of the Rural Youth from Aspirational District, Baramulla and is sponsored by MANAGE, Hyderabad. 25 unemployed youth have been admitted for the programme and shall be given hands on training for converting the waste or left over silk cocoons into valuable products including bouquets, photo frames and garlands etc. Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension, SKUAST-K, Chief Guest of the function stressed upon the fact that Skill Development among the youth forms the basis of futuristic society empowered to be self sustainable. He said that it has been an endeavour of SKUAST-K to transfer the technological advances among our farming community and youth. Sericulture being an important industry of Kashmir warrants special attention and especially the farming community associated with industry needs to be abreast with latest technological advancements and value addition techniques for making the enterprise sustainable and competitive.
He promised continuous support from Directorate ofExtension, SKUAST-K in this regard. Prof M.F. Baqual, Associate Dean, CoTS,Mirgund while elaborating upon the challenges and opportunities in the Sericulture Sector desired that the Skill Development Programmes for unemployed educated youth in particular and farming community in general needs to be prioritised. Prof. K.A Sahaf also highlighted the importance of the programme and impressed upon the participants to take full advantage of this training. Dr.M.R. Mir thanked the dignitaries and the participants.
