KVK Shopian along with GDC Shopian celebrate World Soil Day

SRINAGAR: KVK Shopian in collaboration with Govt. Degree College Shopian celebrated world soil Day on the chosen theme “Halt Soil Salinisation Boost Soil Productivity” at Sir Syed Hall of GDC Shopian. More than 100 participants attended the programme. The programme was attended by Prof. Bashir Ahmad Dar, Principal GDC Shopian, Prof. Tariq Hussain Mir, Vice Principal GDC Shopian, Sr. Scientist & Head KVK Shopian, Dr Parmeet Singh, Head Department of Physics GDC Shopian, Dr Gulzar Ahmad, Coordinator of the programme, Dr Mumtaz Ahmad Ganie, District SMS Horticulture Department Shopian, Muzaffar Ahmad Naikoo, HDO KaprinShopianMr.Mushtaq Ahmad, Representative from Agriculture Department Shopian, Scientists of KVK Shopian, Faculty members of GDC Shopian, College Students and Farmers.
At the outset Principal GDC Shopian, Prof. Bashir Ahmad Dar welcomed and briefed the gathering about the importance of celebrating World Soil Day. Further he sought collaboration from KVK Shopian in many skill development courses in horticulture and post-harvest management field and promised that GDC Shopian will always render every possible help in making those programmes a grand success. Sr. Scientist & Head KVK Shopian, Dr Parmeet Singh thanked principal GDC Shopian for wonderful hospitality and threw light on the importance of World Soil Day.
Moreover He assured that skill development programmes shall be conducted in collaboration with GDC Shopian in which students of the college will be benefited. Afterwards Scientist Soil Science and coordinator of the programme, Dr Mumtaz Ahmad Ganie delivered lecture on “Rights of Soil & Soil Health” in which soil degradation, soil health and protection of soil was discussed. Representative from Agriculture Department delivered talk on the importance of soil testing and deliberated upon the departmental schemes which are in vogue. Lastly vote of thanks was presented by Dr Umar Farooq, Assistant Professor Botany GDC Shopian and refreshment was served among the participants.
