KVK Zanskar organizes one day Kisan Mela at Padum Zanskar

SRINAGAR: KrishiVigyanKendraKargil-II (Zanskar) organized one day KisanMela at its main campus Padum Zanskar. The Mela was inaugurated by StanzinLakpa, Councilor (Cha), LAHDC-Kargil. Around 350 farmers from Zanskar, officers of line departments, local Panchayat & Hill council representatives participated in the event. Speaking on the occasion, Lakpa lauded the efforts of KrishiVigyanKendraKargil-II in transformation of Agriculture in Zanskar valley and also highlighted the importance of such events in shaping the vision of tribal farming community for a prosperous future in agriculture & allied sectors. He congratulated the organizing committee for successful conduct of the event and thanked the participants for their active participation. Earlier the Panchayat representatives & progressive farmers provided their valuable feedback & thanked the Head & his team for their relentless support to the farming community.
Dr. ShahnawazRasool Dar, Head KrishiVigyanKendraKargil-II (Zanskar) in his address highlighted the vision of Kendra for transforming Zanskar agriculture from sustenance to commercial scale in a sustainable manner. He laid special emphasis on development of entrepreneurship & FPOs in agriculture & allied sectors and also advocated adoption of Integrated Farming Systems (IFS) at a large scale. Head KrishiVigyanKendraKargil-II (Zanskar) deeply admired the special care & concern of Vice Chancellor Professor J. P. Sharma & Director Extension Professor Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi SKUAST-K for the welfare of the tribal farming community of Zanskar. He also informed the participants about the awards received by Zanskar farmers in the recently conducted Northern India Regional Agricultural Fair-2021 at Jammu, which was greatly applauded. The officers of line departments informed the participants about various government schemes available in different sectors for the welfare of the farming community of Ladakh region.
Scientists of Kendra stressed upon the importance of adopting modern scientific tools & technologies, high yielding varieties, crop diversification, quality fodder & mineral supplements for improvement of animal health and conservation of natural resource base. KrishiVigyan Kendra Kargil II Zanskar along with the agriculture department is firmly committed to revive fortunes of the tribal farming community through transformation of local agriculture on modern scientific lines and capacity building of farmersProgressive farmers. Top exhibitors in the event were awarded for their contribution in agriculture & allied sectors. 315 kg foundation seed of promising wheat varieties HD 2967, HD 2733, DBW 187 and DBW 107 were also distributed among champion farmers of cold arid Himalayan deserts of Zanskar for further multiplication in farmer participatory mode. The proceedings of the event were conducted by Dr. Shabber Hussain & vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Aabid Hussain.
