IGNOU learners are our pride and glory: Prof. Nageshwar Rao Vice Chancellor of IGNOU

Srinagar: During 8th Alumni Association Meet 2021 through virtual mode organized by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in association with IGNOU Campus Placement Cell, New Delhi (CPC) jointly pertains to IGNOU Regional Centre Jammu and IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar. In the presidential address, IGNOU Vice Chancellor Prof. Nageshwar Rao encouraged and motivated the IGNOU learners who have completed their degrees in different disciplines and streams. Prof. Nageshwar Rao said that IGNOU learners are our identity, brand ambassadors in the field and are really real stake holders of the University. He said IGNOU learners are our Glory and due to their presence, IGNOU got five star ranking in higher education institutions and NAAC Accreditation with A++ in imparting the higher education to the learners across the nation. IGNOU has a great contribution in achieving the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) of a country.
On this auspicious occasion former Vice Chancellor of Orissa State Open University and present Regional Services Division Director Dr. Sri Kanth Mohapatra said IGNOU has created a platform to alumni association to reunite, reorganize and reconnecting the IGNOU learners for the purpose to get the valuable feedbacks for framing the policy matter to improve the quality of higher education particularly in Open Distance Learning mode. Dr. S. K. Mohapatra appreciated the collective efforts taken by Regional Centre Srinagar and Regional Centre Jammu to provide effective student support services. He appreciated the approach of Regional Centre Srinagar for enhancement in the enrollment ratio in particular in Masters Degree Programmes. The Alumni who participated in the 8th alumni meet are Prof. J.N. Baliyan Head of Department Mass communication Central University, Jammu (did PGDHE), Waseem Qadri Team Leader Payment System J&K Bank (did MCA), Bilal Ahmad Mudaw Project Manager J&K Bank (did MBA), Furhan Ahmad Data Processing Executive (did MCA, PGDHE), Ishtiyaq Nazir Malik Public Relation Officer (did MPA, MPS), Dr. Jan Mohammad Asstt. Professor, former IGNOU coordinator GDC Pulwama, Dr. Khalil Asstt. Professor, Parvaiz Ahmad Mir Lecturer Govt. Medical College Baramulla (did MSO). Regional Director Dr. Meena said that this Alumni Association Meet gave a moral boost up to past IGNOU learners as well as enrolled learners to share their views about higher education of IGNOU through an official platform.
The Alumni association meet of Regional Centre Srinagar has been presented by Regional Director Dr. Kamlesh Meena in his address, Dr. Meena has formally welcomed Hon’ble Vice Chancellor IGNOU, Director RSD and all panelists pertaining to alumni association meet. Dr. Meena has assured the competent authority to perform responsibilities with honesty, dedication, sincerity and fairness for the betterment of learners and upliftment of IGNOU Regional Centre Srinagar Kashmir. Dr. Meena has emphasized that the role of IGNOU particularly in the valley is commendable to impart the higher education to the door steps despite of prevailing circumstances and climatic hardships in the valley. At this meeting Dr. Meena pledged to the competent authority of IGNOU that he will remain firm and committed to his responsibilities assigned to him by the competent authority in delivering his services for the upliftment to achieve new horizons and heights of Regional Centre Srinagar.
Indira Gandhi National Open University took an initiative to connect present and former enrolled learners, who are serving in different organizations in different capacities. First time IGNOU with the association of IGNOU Placement Cell, New Delhi has organized an Alumni meet, the purpose of alumni meet is to reconnect IGNOU learners with the University to know their present contribution to the Society and to the Nation through acquired higher education from IGNOU. It is a universal fact that IGNOU every year passes out/award degrees to lakhs of learners through 21 different respective schools. IGNOU is providing higher education opportunities to the oppressed, depressed, marginalized, poor people, in-service Govt. employees of central and state Govt., including teachers, nursing communities, army, para force personnels, bankers, business community, farmers, bureaucrats and house wives through Open Distance Learning mode. IGNOU has the highest record in Gross Education Ratio (GER) in the higher education system of the Nation. At present IGNOU is playing a vital role to open avenues to enhance the higher education opportunities for the aspirants of remote and far flung areas, in particular of the areas which are demographically critical in nature. IGNOU democratized higher education, making it easily accessible to all at the doorsteps. IGNOU is known as the People’s University, central national Open University with international jurisdiction with the remark of world’s largest Open University. The purpose of the alumni association meeting is to reconnect, revisit and re-establishment the cordial relationship between IGNOU and their learners. IGNOU degree awarded learners are brand ambassadors of the University. Regional Centre Srinagar is highly thankful to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Sir and Director RSD for organizing the Alumni meet for taking valuable feedback from the learners associated with IGNOU.
