Dr. Javeed Ahmad Mugloo chosen as president, Prof. Mohd. Anwar Bhat (FoA) as vice president

Srinagar: The election to select the electoral body for the prestigious SKUAST-K Scientists Teachers Association (SSTA) with a mandate to seek the welfare of the scientific community was held on 12th October, 2021. The electoral body comprises of a president, vice president, general secretary, joint secretary, publicity secretary, treasurer and Councilors. There were a total of 15 councilors from different electoral units, mainly to highlight their problems for redressal.
The chief election commissioner, Prof. M. S. Pukhta, Head, Division of Agricultural Statistics and election commissioner, Dr. Imran Khan, Associate Professor, Division of Agricultural Statistics worked tirelessly to streamline the process with an online provision for the scientists to cast their valuable votes. An exit poll was also organized after the casting of votes to provide a glimpse of the entire election process.
The counting of the votes was held on 21st October, 2021 with 2 observers and 8 ARO’s from different faculties to legitimise the election process. The results were declared by CEC with Dr. Javeed Ahmad Mugloo (FoF) elected as president, Prof. Mohd. Anwar Bhat (FoA) as vice president, Dr. Aflaq Hamid, (FoH) general secretary, Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Bahar (FoA) joint secretary, Dr. Raiz Ahmad Lone (KVK, Srinagar) publicity secretary and Dr. Zaffar Afroz Badri (KVK/ETC) as treasurer. It is pertinent to mention that the body will retain their position for two years and are mandated to follow the by-laws of SSTA.
Prof. M. S. Pukhta, Chief election commissioner (CEC) thanked the scientific fraternity for their overwhelming support, particularly Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. J. P. Sharma. He congratulated the winning contestants and expressed his desire to involve the latest technological gadgets like EVM in next election to finish the entire exercise within a day or two. Dr. Imran Khan, election commissioner expressed gratitude to the administration of SKUAST-K, presiding officers, ARO’s for their help in planning and organizing the activities within stipulated time.
