District Badminton championship concludes in Pampore

Pampore: Owais and Irtiqa Gulzar bagged first position in senior boys’ and girls’ category of District Badminton Championship which concluded here on Friday at Indoor Stadium Government Degree College Pampore.
Sehar won both U-19 and U-17 girls’ titles while Rohit Kaul won U-19 men’s title. Alam and Zahid emerged winners in U-19 Men’s doubles trophy and senior doubles category saw Ariz and Younis take home the title.
Senior Men’s Double event trophy went to Ariz and Younis and it was Sehar and Irtiqa who grabbed the top honours in senior girls doubles category. Mixed double event title was won by Adnan and Irtiqa.
Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan was the chief guest on the prize distribution ceremony and gave away prizes to winners and runner-ups.
Speaking on the occasion Advisor Khan praised for the organizers for providing aspiring players platform to showcase their talent.
He said that Government is committed to upgrade sports infrastructure in the UT to help players to realize their sporting dreams.
He further revealed that Pampore will soon get a multipurpose play ground.
Around 350 participants from various areas of District Pulwama took part in the championship.
Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Basheer-Ul-Haq Choudhary, SSP Awantipora Mohammad Yousuf, Additional Deputy Commissioner Awantipora Zaffar Hussian Shawl, Principal GDC Pampore Dr Seema Naaz, Tehsildar Pampore besides other government officials were also present on the ocassion.
The organisers Mir Murwat Hussain, Mir Irfan Ahmad Ahsani and GDC officials were also present on the occasion.
The tournament was organized by J&K Badminton Association Pulwama Chapter in collaboration with Degree College Pampore.
