Organic Food essential to one and all: PS AP&FWD

Srinagar: Agriculture Production & Farmer’s Welfare Department celebrated world food day, during which various events were organized by the Department in all the districts of Kashmir Division. Principal Secretary Agriculture Production & Farmer’s Welfare Department Navin Kumar Chaudhary highlighted the importance of this day. In his message, he said the world food day is celebrated annually on 16th of October to promote global awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger. He said organic food, free of pesticides, processing or additives is essential to one and all and it not only promises good health but also a brighter future for a sustainable planet. Navin Kumar Chaudhary said that the primary focus is to tackle global hunger and strive to eradicate hunger across the world. He said about 821 million people in the world are chronically undernourished, 99% of them live in developing nations. The primary focus is to tackle global hunger, mall nutrition, hegemonic and nutritious food as the basic necessities for all humans, he said and, added. Mr. Chaudhary said that on this World Food Day we should respect food and food development and finally support food related business and retailers.
In the light of World Food Day a training program was organized by the Department at Tahab Pulwama. Speaking on the occasion, Director Agriculture Kashmir Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal said that to celebrate the World Food Day in a big way, Department of Agriculture under the “National Mission on Edible Oils” has already initiated a massive camapaign to double the area under Oilseeds (Mustard) in the valley. Director Agriculture said that in the honour of our farming community, Department has organized various events in all the districts of valley to celebrate the World Food Day. He said that todays event at Tahab we are focusing on Farm Mechanization. We are providing farmers with different types of farm machinery so that on one hand their labour expenses could be minimized scientific manner. Director Agriculture said that we are celebrating World Food Day by creating awareness about latest interventions and technology in the field of agriculture to enhance food production and to combat hunger.
Chief Agriculture Officer Pulwama G.M.Dhobi, District Agriculture Officers Pulwama Shahnawaz Shah, Mohammad Munaf Bhat and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
