DC reviews progress under FPO scheme at Kulgam

KULGAM: In order to review the progress of Central Sponsored Scheme of Farmers Producers Organisations (FPOs) in Kulgam district, a district level monitoring committee meeting under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Dr. Bilal-Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat was held at DC office, here, today.
The meeting was convened by NABARD and attended by district officers of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal husbandry, cooperatives, KVK (SKUAST) and Fisheries department.
DDM NABARD, Rouf Zargar, provided the details of the scheme and various benefits of FPO formation.
As per the scheme guidelines, the DMC has been constituted to approve the Blocks with a particular Agricultural product in which FPO could be formed.
During the meeting, it was informed that four products vegetable, spices, fisheries and apple would be considered for approval in four specific blocks.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the respective district officers to come up with a baseline survey of these potential blocks.
He urged upon the departments to identify small farmers who could be roped into FPOs for availing the benefits of the scheme.
He also directed the fisheries department to identify the clusters across the district which could be provided benefit of the scheme.
