SHOPIAN: KrishiVigyanKendra, Shopian organized an event to celebrate along with other states/ UT’s the IFFCO led programme under Plantation and Nutrition Abhyan. The programme was held for nutrition and plantation drive in the district.Departments of Horticulture, social welfare and Agriculture also participated.
District development Commissioner Shopian Mr. Sachin Kumar Vaishya was theChief Guest and Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Director Extension SKUAST- K was the guest of honour. Invitees included Chief Agriculture Officer Shopian, Chief Horticulture Officer Shopianand representative from IFFCO, besides,Officers and Officials of departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, ICDS and Progressive farmers of the district attended the event. Chief Agriculture and Chief Horticulture Officers apprised the audience about the schemes in vogue in their respective departments
The Guest of Honour Prof. Dil Mohammad Makdoomi in his address elaborated upon the relevance of the programme and future plans of SKUAST- Kashmir for generation of livelihood opportunities for the farming community of the district.
The Chief Guest underlined the need for screening and diagnosis of pests and diseases. Nutri-seed kits were alsodistributed among the participants on the occasion. Thereafter, atree of Chinar( PlatanusOrientalis) was planted in the KVK premises by Chief Guest and Guest of Honour at the conclusion of the event.
Later in the day Director extension SKUAST-K Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi spoke to the participants, progressive farmers and those farmers given FLD’s at KVK pulwama about the importance of the day with particular reference to the production of rice which is rich in iron/ vitamin B complex and provision of rice to diabetic patients in an attempt to give nutritional security to the people of the region. He also distributed golden key stone poultry birds free of cost to the owners of the catchment area of the district.
