High Density Apple orchard inaugurated at KVK Budgam.

SRINAGAR: The first harvest of High Density Apple (TrellisSystem)was inaugurated at KVK Budgam on 11th September 2021. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. J.P. Sharma who was the Chief guest on the occasion presided over the event in virtual mode.Director Extension SKUAST-K, Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi and Additional District Development Commissioner Budgam, Dr. Akramullah Tak graced the event as Guests of Honor. The trainees of all the four training programmes of Skill Development/Skill training for Rural youth (STRY) also attended the said function at the KVK premises Budgam and were felicitated with merit certificates for their performance during the training programmes.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, Prof. J.P. Sharma in his address also underlined the importance of training on Poultry farming and Quality Seed Development. He instructed to link poultry farmers of the area with the university so that their treatment and market linkage is established which will benefit and encourage the farmers towards entrepreneurship in order to ensure augmentation of their income.
Director Extension SKUAST-K, Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi who inaugurated the Trellis System/First Harvest of High Density Apple, appreciated the efforts of the KVK team. He assured that KVK infrastructure will be strengthened and more Demonstrations units will be established to incorporate Integrated Farming System (IFS). Director Extension SKUAST-K highly appreciated the work done by the Scientific staff of KVK.
Additional District Development Commissioner Budgam in his speech also assured of full cooperation and support from Line Departments at the district level. Dr. Nasir A. Dar, Programme Coordinator KVK briefed the dignitaries about the functioning and outreach of the KVK and importance of Skill Development Programmes for the rural youth. He informed that the average yield production of high density apple has reached 40-50 M.Tons/hectare. During the event, KVKBudgam had also displayed a stall of Farm produce and Value added products.
