Sheeri people protest, demands removal of electric lines from residential area

Baramulla: Day after a carpenter was electrocuted from the roof top of a house in Sheeri Narvaw area of Baramulla, the large number of people of the area staged a protest and demanded the shifting of high tension power supply lines from the residential area.
Eyewitness said that, large number of people including men and children from Sheeri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district took to the streets on Friday afternoon and staged a strong protest against the power development department who yet not shift the high tension power supply line from the residential area.
Protesting people said that there is a high tension 33000-KV power supply line passing over to several residential houses and another line 11000 is also close to these houses, yesterday when a carpenter was fixing tin on the roof top of a house, suddenly the tin sheet touched to the 33000 power line, resulting he received serious burn injuries and is battling for life in a hospital. Protesters said that they requested the department so many times to shift the line far from residential areas, but no result.
The protesters threatened that if the department did not shift the line away, they would stage another protest on Srinagar Muzaffarabad main highway
